This courtyard in Barnes needed some thoughtful design to make best use of the small space. The unusual U-shape presented an opportunity to create zones in the garden to be used for different purposes. We created an intimate dining area covered by an existing (and fabulous) grape vine. In the larger space, we removed the very tall and imposing ivy covered fence and replaced with a lower slatted fence and pleached trees for privacy. We also designed a built-in planter and bench complete with concealed storage.

Small spaces always need some clever solutions to maximise space. We suggested to our client to move the entrance gate to the garden to create a place to store their bikes out of view.
